Well-Being Starts Everywhere
We Are
Well-Being in the Workplace
This Diabetes Awareness Month, we’re asking every workplace, big or small, to make space for diabetes. Support starts with understanding. When people with diabetes feel seen and supported, they thrive—at work and beyond.
Judy Mitri
Bilingual Communications Manager, Renewable Energy Industry
“One of the biggest challenges I face managing diabetes at work is the mental load that comes with it. It’s not always easy to balance my health with my responsibilities.”
Dan Newman
HR Manager
One of the biggest challenges is stigma and misconception that people have around diabetes, which “has affected my well-being because I've previously hidden my diabetes from managers and from colleagues because I just didn't want to be seen as the weak link.”
Samuel Rösch
Singer/songwriter/musician
“I would like my colleagues and employers to understand that people with diabetes can perform really well and that more flexibility and support helps those with diabetes to truly flourish.”
Meg Cremins
Registered Dietitian
“I wish that more employers understood that diabetes affects us all the time. It's not just when we need to go to the doctor or when we're having a meal, but truly any minute that we are alive, we could be having a high or low blood sugar.”
The Silent Burden of Diabetes in the Workplace
Managing diabetes doesn’t stop when the workday starts, and not everyone has the same kind of support at work.
For some, it’s a manager who understands, a teammate who covers a meeting, or an employer that prioritizes flexibility and inclusion.
For others, support means self-advocacy: creating their own systems, finding small ways to recharge, or simply pushing through when understanding is hard to find. That strength deserves recognition, too.
Call for Support
This Diabetes Awareness Month, we're calling on workplaces to see and support every experience: whether that means showing up for a colleague, building policies that create space, or acknowledging the quiet resilience of those who do it alone.
