Omnipod® 5 With FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor and FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus Sensor Integration HCP FAQs

The new features require both a software update and compatible Pods. Patients will receive a software update to their Controller and/or Omnipod® 5 App on their compatible smartphone that will unlock the new features.   

For current FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor patients, continue prescribing through their usual pharmacy channel. Compatible Pods are entering retail pharmacies, and availability will broaden through the summer. Patients should continue using their current Pod supply, and compatible Pods will begin to appear in refills as inventory transitions. 

If a patient is starting on FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus, or if earlier access to the full enhancements is clinically important for a patient using the FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor, Omnipod 5 intro kits and refill Pods can be ordered through ASPN as an eRx. 

Reference prescribing instructions 

Yes. FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus users can access the algorithm enhancements, the 100 mg/dL Target Glucose option and the Check Blood Glucose Advisory Alarm, when they are using compatible L2/L3 Pods and have completed the software update. Patients using older G6/L2 Pods will receive compatible Pods through the standard channel flush. 

The Omnipod® 5 System is the only tubeless automated insulin delivery system integrated with the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus and 2 Plus sensors. Now with more choices in Sensor integration including the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor, patients can start Omnipod® 5 without changing from their preferred continuous glucose monitor (CGM/Sensor) brand. Omnipod® 5 with FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor integration features system control from a the Omnipod® 5 App on the dedicated Controller, and compatible Android device, and 15-day Sensor wear. Omnipod® 5 with FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor integration features system control from the Omnipod® 5 App on the dedicated Controller, and 15-day Sensor wear. 

The Custom Foods feature allows users to input and save carb amounts for typical meal sizes, favorite foods and snacks such as a smoothie, salad or coffee. In addition, you can add typical meal sizes such as small, medium and large or breakfast, lunch and dinner. 

You can select from this list when bolusing for meals from your device using the SmartBolus Calculator for simplified mealtime math. 

The solution allows FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus and 2 Plus data from the Omnipod® 5 system to be passed to the LibreView cloud, enabling caregivers to access this data through LibreLinkUp app. 

Omnipod 5 / FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus and 2 Plus sensor users can link their online PodderCentral and LibreView accounts by navigating to the Account Linking page within their online Omnipod account. Users will also receive an email informing them that the functionality is available with further instructions on how to share their data with caregivers via the LibreLinkUp app.

Omnipod 5 with the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor integration requires a new, compatible Pod. However, a new Omnipod prescription is not required for previous Omnipod 5 with FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor integration users. Their existing Pod prescription covers the Libre-compatible Pod pathway for both Libre FreeStyle 3 Plus and 2 Plus sensors. The FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor requires a separate prescription and is available in participating pharmacies.  

For new-to-Omnipod 5 patients using FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor, eRx both the Intro Kit and refill Pods to ASPN. The FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus and Libre 2 Plus sensors are prescribed separately and available in participating pharmacies (Sensor prescription cannot be processed through ASPN). 

For all other new-to-Omnipod 5 patients, continue prescribing to the patient’s preferred retail or mail-order pharmacy.

For FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor patients who are new to Omnipod® 5, or switching to this sensor from another, please eRx both the Intro Kit and refill Pods to ASPN.  

For FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus patients who are new to Omnipod® 5, or switching to this sensor from another, please prescribe to their preferred retail pharmacy or ASPN Pharmacies.  

The FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus and 2 Plus sensors require a separate prescription. Sensor prescription cannot be processed through ASPN.

Product names may vary by EHR system and may not update immediately at launch. Providers should verify that both the Intro Kit and refill Pods indicate 'Libre' in the product name and use the current prescribing fact sheet for the latest product naming and NDC reference information. Compendia naming for Omnipod 5 Libre2Plus is expected to update to Omnipod 5 Libre as retail availability broadens.

If your patient is not covered for Omnipod^® 5 with the compatible FreeStyle Libre sensors, an Insulet representative will reach out to them to discuss alternative options including advocating for coverage for their Pods or using the Omnipod DASH^® System. A separate prescription will be required for the Omnipod DASH^® System.
