Kelly Rowe

Kelly Rowe - UK podder
Kelly Rowe Podder™ since 2019

Kelly is passionate about sport and loves her job as a lifeguard – but after she was diagnosed at 23 years old with Type 1 Diabetes she found taking Multiple Daily Injections was taking a toll on her and she wanted more flexibility. She knew pump therapy would improve her quality of life, but felt tubes would get in the way of her work. When she heard about the Omnipod® System she felt it was the perfect fit for her lifestyle. Kelly now enjoys the flexibility to put on a temporary basal and the fact that the Omnipod® System is tubeless and waterproof1 gives her freedom to continue her job and lifestyle. Kelly became a Podder™ in 2019 and says she took to the Omnipod® System like a ‘duck to water’ and has already seen an improvement in her diabetes management. We love to see the spring back in your step Kelly!

Archie is 11 and loves his sports - in fact he’s awesome when it comes to scoring goals for his Lacrosse club. His four-legged friend also has a keen eye for the ball and they love hanging out together after school. When Archie was diagnosed at 7 with Type 1 Diabetes, Mum Joanne wanted him to continue to play all the sports he loved. She also wanted peace of mind that he was meeting his target range. Both Archie and Mum did some research and agreed that the Omnipod® System would be a great choice to match their needs. Now Archie’s taken to the Omnipod® System like a pro and is scoring more goals in life. Mum gets more sleep at night too knowing the Omnipod® System is supporting her son in his active lifestyle. Joanne worked out that they avoided 187 injections in the first 3 weeks of wearing the Pod - Phew!

For me as a parent to be able to go in during the night when he is fast asleep and just literally do a bolus on what I know his blood sugar is and then deliver the insulin and then back to bed.

Hear Joanne describe her experience

We found the Omnipod® System very intuitive, very simple. We can programme something very simply. Archie even does some of the programming by himself now, he finds it simple...

The Omnipod® System just made my life easier, I just need to press some buttons to deliver the insulin, rather than wires2 or injections. It makes a difference, especially on the golf course.

Meet Hannah as she shares her journey

It’s definitely important for people to have a choice of pump because everyone’s life style is different, it suits people in a different way. The wireless2 option for what I do, is massive...

I have run over woods with the Omnipod® System for 13 hours and it was over 13500 feet in elevation. I have also done surfing... in and out of the water1, I really put it to the test.

What I like with a pump, being a runner, is if I am going for a run I can manage my temporary basal reduction, I can set that off, and it gives me the confidence I need.

Having a pump that is waterproof1 is so handy and it being wireless2 means I don't need to be so aware of it all the time.

Zara tries to maintain a healthy lifestyle, exercising regularly and cooking balanced meals. She works as both an NHS and private dentist, and her passion lies in facial aesthetics - helping her patients to restore their self-confidence. She is also involved with community projects, and runs a initiative called Mission DentAll, distributing oral hygiene supplies to those in need. Over the past few years, she has raised over £4000 for various charities including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and has been able to use her platform to talk about Type 1 Diabetes.

Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes aged three, Zara has been on pump therapy for four years, previously using pre-filled insulin pens. She thinks that it’s incredibly important for people to have a choice where possible: “diabetes is not ‘one size fits all’ by any stretch of the imagination, and its treatment is not either”. She says that the Omnipod® System has been life-changing in her case.

It’s ok to have an “off” day. I think it’s easy to beat yourself up when you have a day when your blood sugars have been high but we need to remember that it’s a marathon, not a sprint.
