Check Blood Glucose Feature

The new "Check Blood Glucose” advisory alarm is replacing the “Automated Delivery Restriction” advisory alarm. When the alarm is triggered for high glucose events, the user will receive a 'Check Blood Glucose' message. The Omnipod 5 System will remain in Automated Mode and continue to deliver auto-corrections based on insulin needs.

The new "Check Blood Glucose” advisory alarm is replacing the “Automated Delivery Restriction” advisory alarm. This new alarm no longer requires users to switch to Manual Mode for 5 minutes.

The alarm occurs when the System has been working to bring your/ the user's glucose into range, but has not seen your/their sensor glucose values change as predicted. The alarm notification screen will indicate if you are trending high or low.

During high glucose events, when the alarm is triggered, the user remains in Automated Mode and receive corrections based on insulin needs.
Acknowledging the alarm clears the alarm; no action is required to remain in Automated Mode.

During low glucose events, when the alarm is triggered, the System will switch you/users to Automated Mode: Limited. Once you/the user acknowledges the alarm, the System will now automatically switch back to Automated Mode.
 

The new Pods look the same. However, the packaging for the new Pods have a black dot with "R1". The black dot is located on the top right corner of the Tray Lid and 10-pack box label. You/the user also needs to accept the Omnipod® 5 App software update to unlock the new 'Check Blood Glucose' feature.

No, the Pod form factor did not change with the addition of this feature.

Yes, both Pods that are compatible with Dexcom and FreeStyle Libre sensors will eventually include the updated 'Check Blood Glucose' advisory alarm. The packaging of compatible Pods have a black dot with "R1", located on the top right corner of the Tray Lid.

At launch, the FreeStyle Libre Pods will be compatible with the enhancement, and the Dexcom pods will be available in early 2027.
 

The new alarm enhancement will require both a Controller software update and new updated Pods. When you receive the new 4.0.1. software update on your Controller, please accept it, then look for the new Pods identified with the black dot and "R1" marking. The black dot is located on the top right corner of the Tray Lid and 10-pack box label.

No, you do not need a new Controller to use this new feature. You will receive a software update to your Controller that will unlock this feature for you. You will need new compatible Pods.

We are working hard to bring the updated 'Check Blood Glucose' advisory alarm into our international markets. We expect this enhancement to be available in the UK and BENELUX regions between Q3 2026 and early 2027. More precise timing for the launch will be shared in the coming months.
