Life with type 1 diabetes can be a balancing act, as all of us living with this condition can relate to, but it doesn’t have to slow you down! As someone who’s been managing type 1 diabetes (T1D) for over 26 years, I’ve learned that staying active is not only possible, but it makes my life with T1D so much easier. From Pilates workouts to long rides on my bike, I’ve found ways to keep fitness an important part of my life, all while maintaining good control of my glucose levels. My Omnipod DASH® has helped with this!
Today, I want to share how this device has been a game-changer, giving me the flexibility and freedom that allows me to live my best life!
I’ve always been a fan of movement—exercise is my therapy! But…as anyone living with T1D knows, being active comes with its own set of challenges. Life before Omnipod was a delicate balancing act between physical activity and stable glucose levels, and it was more challenging to control my insulin needs on multiple daily injections.
Switching from multiple daily injections to Omnipod simplified how I managed my diabetes, giving me more time to focus on the things I love. Don’t get me wrong, living with T1D is challenging on the best days, but now I have more time to focus on other things— like staying active! This insulin pump has completely changed how I approach fitness. It’s discreet, tubeless and waterproof*, which makes it a perfect fit for my active lifestyle.

Staying active with Type 1 Diabetes is also about managing the inevitable highs and lows. Exercise can sometimes cause unpredictable glucose level swings, but Omnipod’s Temp Basal feature has really helped with this. I typically activate it 60-90 minutes before activity. This helps to reduce the chances of hypoglycemia during exercise. This level of flexibility has been incredible for me!
Incorporating movement into my life with Type 1 Diabetes encourages resilience and empowerment. Omnipod has given me peace of mind as well as the confidence to pursue my passions—especially the active ones—without being held back by my diabetes. So, here’s to more movement, more peace of mind, and more freedom!
