About Omnipod 5

The Omnipod 5 System is the first wearable, on-body, tubeless, hybrid closed loop system integrated with Dexcom G6, Dexcom G7 and FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus Sensors, approved in Australia for use in people with type 1 diabetes, aged 2 and above. 

The Omnipod 5 System works with the Dexcom G6, Dexcom G7 and FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus Sensors to continuously adapt and automatically deliver insulin according to the user's personal needs. 

The Omnipod 5 System works with the Dexcom G6, Dexcom G7 and FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus Sensors. 

AID stands for Automated Insulin Delivery, and refers to a system that is able to automatically adjust insulin delivery based on glucose readings from an integrated glucose sensor. 

Within this category there are HCLs, which stand for Hybrid Closed Loop systems. These automatically adjust basal insulin based on glucose readings from an integrated glucose sensor, with the user manually delivering bolus insulin to cover meals. 

Currently, all available AID systems on the market are HCLs, which mean that there is still a need to manually deliver bolus insulin at mealtimes. Therefore, you may hear these 2 terms used interchangeably. 

The Omnipod 5 is supplied with a protective gel skin, charging cable and adapter.

The Omnipod®5 Automated Insulin Delivery System is approved for use with the following U-100 insulins:  

NovoLog®/NovoRapid®, Humalog®/Liprolog®,  

Trurapi®/Insulin aspart Sanofi®, Kirsty®, and  

Admelog®/Insulin lispro Sanofi® 

In Automated Mode, automated insulin delivery adapts to your changing needs as you wear the System. As you use the Omnipod®5 System and gather insulin delivery history, SmartAdjust™ technology will automatically update your next Pod with information from your last few Pods about your recent total daily insulin (TDI). Your baseline Adaptive Basal Rate is based on how much total daily insulin you have needed over the past few weeks. With each Pod change, SmartAdjust™ technology uses this updated TDI to set a new Adaptive Basal Rate for you. (See chapter on 'Pod Adaptivity' in the Omnipod® 5 Technical User Guide for more information). 
 
Note: As with all Hybrid Closed Loop systems, you will still need to bolus for meals and for correction. 

The Omnipod®5 Pod is enhanced with a control algorithm called SmartAdjust™ technology. Instead of remembering routines, the Omnipod®5 System continually monitors and adjusts insulin delivery as needed. Every 5 minutes, SmartAdjust™ technology receives Sensor glucose value and trend data and it takes this information and predicts where glucose will be 60 minutes into the future. It then increases, decreases, or pauses automated insulin using the user's customised target. 
 
Note: As with all Hybrid Closed Loop systems, you will still need to bolus for meals and for correction. 

Users of the Omnipod®5 System can set target glucose values ranging from 6.1 to 8.3 mmol/L. Users can choose to set up to 8 different glucose target segments per day.

The SmartAdjust™ Technology is able to respond to high glucose levels by increasing insulin to bring glucose down towards the Target Glucose. Omnipod®5 may deliver a microbolus of insulin every 5 minutes with the aim to reach the user's customised Target Glucose Setting that ranges from 6.1 to 8.3 mmol/L 

Omnipod® 5 is compatible with Glooko®.  Data is uploaded from the Omnipod®5 Controller wirelessly using a secure Wi-Fi connection or the built-in SIM card for cellular connectivity. 

As part of the Onboarding journey when starting Omnipod®5, you will have the option of connecting your online Omnipod® account to your Glooko account. Users should go to www.Omnipod.com, go to Omnipod® account login to wirelessly connect and link their Omnipod® account to their Glooko accounts. To enable your HCP to see your data, ask them for their Pro Connect Code.  

By linking your Omnipod®5 account to your Glooko® account you will enable real-time sharing of your Omnipod®5 Automated Insulin Delivery System data, to allow you to view your personal data in Glooko® data management platform. Once linked you will be able to view your Omnipod®5 data in real-time, review your diabetes history and personalise diabetes insights, share data with your care team.  

Currently Omnipod®5 connects with the dedicated controller and not with any smartphone. We are continuing to develop our offering. However, we are unable to comment further with any specific details at this time. 

The Custom Foods feature allows users to input and save carb amounts for typical meal sizes, favorite foods and snacks such as a smoothie, salad or coffee. In addition, you can add typical meal sizes such as small, medium and large or breakfast, lunch and dinner. 
 
You can select from this list when bolusing for meals from your device using the SmartBolus Calculator for simplified mealtime math. You can add up to 50 custom foods. You can also edit, remove or change the order of foods added at any point in time.

Insulet distributes two versions of Omnipod 5 Pods: 
- Omnipod 5 Pods compatible with both Dexcom G6 and G7 Sensors 
- Omnipod 5 Pods compatible with Dexcom G6 and FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus Sensors. 

You will find the Sensor compatibility on the Pod tray lid and on the upper right corner of the Pod packaging. The size and performance of the Pods do not change. For visual instructions on where to look on the packaging for Pods compatibility visit https://www.omnipod.com/en-au/changingsensors

You should speak to your Healthcare professional about connecting Omnipod 5 to a compatible sensor*, you will need to notify Omnipod customer operations on 1800 954 075 (2) to update any sensor changes to ensure your continued access of Pods from the pharmacy You will continue using your current Controller, and their adaptive basal rate and insulin delivery settings will remain unchanged. More information can be found here https://www.omnipod.com/en-au/changingsensors
