Omnipod® NDSS Subsidy

Omnipod 5 and Omnipod DASH® pods are partially subsidised and listed on the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS). A subscription payment is required to access Omnipod 5 and Omnipod DASH®. This may be covered by private health insurance similar to other insulin pump systems; OR by paying a no lock-in subscription fee to Insulet Australia:

• $185/per box for Omnipod 5.

If accessing Omnipod 5 or Omnipod DASH® Pods  through private health insurance:
Step 1: Contact your pharmacy to place an order
Step 2: Collect your order of Pods from the pharmacy you ordered from and make your NDSS co-payment of $35.30/box for general or $26.60/box for concession card holders.

If accessing Pods through a no lock-in subscription payment to Omnipod:
Step 1: Contact Insulet and make your subscription payment (Payment can take up to 2 days to clear)
Step 2: Contact your pharmacy to place an order
Step 3: Collect your order of Pods from the pharmacy you ordered from and make your NDSS co-payment of $35.30/box for general or $26.60/box for concession card holders.

Omnipod 5 and Omnipod DASH®Pods are not held in stock at your pharmacy and it is necessary to pre-order supply via your NDSS access point. This typically takes a few days. Please discuss with your pharmacist about timing of delivery and plan ahead to ensure you have ample supply at all times.

When placing your order, inform your pharmacist that you’d like to purchase insulin pump consumables, specifically the Omnipod 5 or Omnipod DASH® Pod. Make sure to provide the correct NDSS item code for the product you need.

If you’re ordering the Omnipod 5, you’ll also need to provide the item code that corresponds to your choice of Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM):

• Omnipod 5 with Dexcom G6: NDSS Item Code 691
• Omnipod 5 with Dexcom G7: NDSS Item Code 693
• Omnipod DASH®: NDSS Item Code 690

Omnipod does not offer any loan or trial program as it offers a no lock-in subscription payment option. Once you are confirmed by Omnipod as a registered Omnipod user and have setup a no lock-in subscription, you can access the NDSS subsidy for Omnipod 5 or Omnipod DASH® Pods.

Yes, you can switch between access to Omnipod on the NDSS with the no lock-in subscription to Insulet. Before changing devices, seek guidance from your diabetes health professional.

You will not need to complete another insulin pump consumables access form.  Once your subscription is confirmed with Omnipodyou will become a registered Omnipod user, providing eligibility to the NDSS subsidy for Omnipod 5 or Omnipod DASH® Pods.

You can order a maximum of 13 boxes of Omnipod 5 and/or DASH® Pods within a 12 month period. Please note once you have collected pods from the pharmacy they are not eligible for a return.

Omnipod need to match the CGM in their system with the NDSS system to update the pharmacy NDSS ordering platform to enable your pharmacist to order the correct Omnipod 5 pods for you.

Both the Omnipod DASH® and Omnipod 5 System are accessible through Private Health Insurers, with a benefit payable no more frequently than once every four years. Prescribed List of Medical Devices and Human Tissue Products. Please note that some insurers provide a benefit for insulin pumps once every five years. Insulet Australia will provide coverage of 13 boxes of Pods per year for a maximum period of four years. If your Private Health Insurer provides a benefit once every five years (or longer), from year five, the cost of Pods will be out of pocket at $168.27 per box for Omnipod DASH® and $185 per box Omnipod 5.

The cost of Omnipod 5 in Australia depends on whether you have private health insurance. 

Without private health insurance (no lock in subscription)

If you start via a direct subscription with Omnipod Australia, the cost is: 

• $185 per box of Omnipod 5 Pods 

Once subscribed, you become a registered Omnipod user and can then purchase Pods through the NDSS for the following co-payment at the pharmacy: 

• $35.30 per box (general) 
• $26.60 per box (concession) 

With private health insurance 

If your insurance policy covers Omnipod 5, your insurer pays the system access fee. You then only pay the NDSS co-payment for Pods at the pharmacy: 

• $35.30 per box (general) 
• $26.60 per box (concession) 

1. Make sure you’re already registered with the NDSS 

Only people with type 1 diabetes (and some special consideration cases) are eligible.  

2. Your diabetes healthcare professional must complete the form at this link: insulin-pump-consumables-access-form.pdf. The NDSS Insulin Pump Consumable Access Form must be: 

• Filled out by your clinician (endocrinologist, CDE, nurse practitioner) 
• Certified by them 
• Submitted by email to [email protected] or by the other methods listed on the form  
• Your clinician can also complete the form online through the NDSS Health Professional Portal for faster processing. 

3. NDSS processes the form 

Once approved, you can purchase subsidised insulin pump consumables (including Omnipod Pods) from NDSS Access Points such as community pharmacies
