Omnipod® NDSS Subsidy

The NDSS partially subsidises the ongoing cost of Omnipod® 5 and Omnipod DASH® Pods for people with type 1 diabetes. This guide explains eligibility, pricing, access pathways, and the role of the NDSS Insulin Pump Consumables Form.

 

Who Is Eligible for the NDSS Subsidy? 

You may be eligible for NDSS-subsidised Omnipod Pods if: 

  • You live with type 1 diabetes and are registered with the NDSS.  
  • Your diabetes healthcare professional completes the NDSS Insulin Pump Consumable Access Form, nominating Omnipod® as your insulin pump. 
  • You are registered as an Omnipod 5 or Omnipod DASH® user under your NDSS profile.

 

Omnipod 5 & Omnipod DASH Pricing in Australia

You can start Omnipod® through two access pathways:

 

Pathway A — Without Private Health Insurance (No lock in)

You can start with a no lock in subscription directly with Omnipod Australia. Once subscribed, you become an Omnipod registered user and are eligible for NDSS subsidised Pods.

Subscription payment to Omnipod Australia (per box):

  • $185 Omnipod 5
  • $168.27 Omnipod DASH®

NDSS co-payment^ paid at the pharmacy (per box): 

  • $35.30 general
  • $26.60 concession

Pathway B — With Private Health Insurance

If your private health insurance policy covers Omnipod® 5 or Omnipod DASH® (Omnipod is included in the Insulin Pump category), your insurer typically funds your system access for the duration of your health fund benefit. 

Once approved, you’re registered as an Omnipod user and can purchase Pods through the NDSS. 

NDSS co-payment^ paid at the pharmacy (per box):

  • $35.30 general 
  • $26.60 concession

Receive training and complete paperwork

You will need to receive training from your diabetes healthcare team (diabetes educator and endocrinologist) who will complete the required paperwork.

Once approved/registered as an Omnipod user, pick up subsidised Pods from a community pharmacy for the applicable NDSS co-payment.
