Join the mission for equal access to Automated Insulin Delivery
We believe everyone living with Type 1 Diabetes Deserves Access to Automated Insulin Delivery
How to Advocate
Why This Matters
Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) systems, like Omnipod® 5, can reduce the daily burden of managing type 1 diabetes and help improve diabetes management.
For many Australians, access to this proven technology is still limited.
That needs to change.
The Problem: Best Practice, Unequal Access.
Automated insulin delivery systems are supported by strong clinical evidence and widely recognised as best practice by diabetes organisations in Australia and internationally.
Yet access remains unequal.
- Funding and policy gaps still exist
- Cost can be a barrier
- Access can depend on ability to afford Private Health
This means many people who could benefit simply can’t access this technology.
In 2024, Australia’s leading diabetes organisations endorsed a national consensus statement recommending:
“Every Australian living with type 1 diabetes should have access to an automated insulin delivery system, regardless of age, financial circumstance, or postcode should they choose to use one”.
The Australian Government’s own Inquiry into Diabetes also recommended expanding funded access to insulin pumps.
Despite this, access remains limited for many Australians living with type 1 diabetes.
Why Your Voice Matters
Real change happens when decision-makers hear directly from the diabetes community.
Your lived experience — as someone with type 1 diabetes, a parent, or a carer, helps show why access matters in real life, not just on paper.
If you would like to see all Australians living with Type 1 Diabetes have access to automated insulin delivery systems, you can take action in 2 simple steps.
Step 1: Write to Your Local MP
Share your experience and why access to AID technology matters to you.
Step 2: Copy the Federal Health Minister Hon Mark Butler
What to Say (Keep It Simple)
