Creating a "Draft" of a Published Page

When you need to create a draft version of a page that is already published - for example, you need to make major changes to a published page but the changes need to be made in advance and not be made live until a certain time - do NOT make your changes in the Layout tab and rely on it's auto-saving to keep your changes there, but not live yet because you haven't clicked Save Layout. This may work short term, but your changes could be cleared with no way to recover them. Instead, use another translation as your "draft":

  1. Create a translation of the published page - preferably using 'Draft' or 'Other' but can also use any language that does not have a translation and will not need one before you are done - with the language you are drafting for as the source language on the new translation.
    • Make sure this new translation is unpublished! Contact Marc, Monica, Esther, Maria, or Jen if you do not have permissions to publish/unpublish pages.
  2. Make any changes needed, on Edit and/or on Layout.
  3. When you're ready to switch your page to the new content:
    • If the page you are updating is NOT the original language translation:
      • Delete the translation for the language you are updating using the dropdown at the far right on the translate tab
      • Add back the translation, using your draft language as the source language, and publish
        • Contact Marc, Monica, Esther, Maria, or Jen if you do not have permissions to publish/unpublish pages.
    • If the page you are updating IS the original language translation:
      • Go to the edit tab on the original language translation, use the language drop down at the bottom of the page to change the language to one that is not in use for that page, uncheck published, save
        • Contact Marc, Monica, Esther, Maria, or Jen if you do not have permissions to publish/unpublish pages.
      • Then go to translations and add a new one for the language you need, using your draft language as the source language, and publish
        • Contact Marc, Monica, Esther, Maria, or Jen if you do not have permissions to publish/unpublish pages.
  4. Once you have confirmed that your page has updated properly and you are done with your draft language, delete the translation for it so that others know it is available for this purpose.
