Automated Mode

When the Omnipod® 5 System is in Automated Mode, your basal insulin delivery will change based on what your continuous glucose monitor (CGM) value is and where it's predicted to be 60 minutes into the future.

The Pod has built in SmartAdjust ™ technology and every 5 minutes, the system automatically increases, decreases, or pauses insulin delivery based on your customized Target Glucose. Target Glucose values are customizable based on daily needs ranging from 110 to 150 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) in increments of 10 mg/dL.

  • If CGM values are trending steady, in range and are not predicted to rise or fall → the Pod will generally deliver a steady amount of insulin to keep CGM values near your Target Glucose
  • If CGM values are predicted to rise above the Target Glucose → the Pod will generally increase insulin delivery to bring CGM values back towards your Target Glucose
  • If CGM values are at or predicted to go below the Target Glucose → the Pod will generally decrease or pause insulin delivery to help you avoid going below your Target Glucose

And lastly, automated insulin delivery will always pause when CGM values are below 60 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL).

Another key feature of the Omnipod 5 System is its ability to adapt insulin delivery to your current needs. As you wear the system, the amount of insulin you receive is stored in memory and is used by the system to determine how much insulin to deliver in response to your CGM values.

Training is essential and must be completed before using the Omnipod 5 System. As part of this process, you will need to meet with your healthcare provider and visit omnipod.com/setup to complete setup and schedule your required training.
